1-on-1 Tutoring

Work directly with a maths teacher.

Not a university student reading from a textbook. Focused, structured sessions built around your specific gaps in Methods or Specialist Mathematics.

Who you're working with

A teacher, not a tutor.

I'm Phil, a qualified maths teacher who works with VCE Methods and Specialist students. I've built Axiom because I believe the best maths support comes from someone who actually teaches the subject, not someone who just did well in it a few years ago.

Every session is designed around where you are right now. I look at your SAC results, your practice work, and the specific topics you're finding difficult. Then we work on those things deliberately, with clear explanations and targeted practice.

I keep my student numbers small on purpose. That means I can give proper attention to each person I work with, track their progress closely, and adjust the approach when something isn't clicking.

Qualified maths teacher

Not a student tutor. I teach this curriculum and understand the VCE assessment structure inside and out.

Methods + Specialist

Covering Units 1 through 4 for both Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics.

Small student numbers

I work with a limited number of students so I can give each one the focus they need. Places fill up and don't always open back up.

The weekly system

Every week follows the same cycle.

Improvement compounds when there's a structure behind it, not just a session once a week.

1

Diagnose

Each week starts with a review of your submitted work to identify exactly where marks are being lost.

2

Session

Structured 60-minute session targeting your highest-leverage gaps. Not whatever you happened to bring along.

3

Practice

Targeted problem set issued after each session. Exam-style questions calibrated to your current level.

4

Feedback

Written review of your solutions with specific corrections and technique notes before the next session.

Axiom students also receive multiple practice SACs per assessment, custom-built around their specific weak points, with detailed worked solutions and diagnostic feedback.

What you're actually comparing

Not all maths support is the same thing.

Most people compare hourly rates. But you're not buying hours. You're buying a system that produces results.

University Student
$40-60 /hour
Per session, nothing in between
  • Recently completed the course
  • Can help with homework questions
  • No structured plan between sessions
  • No written feedback on your work
  • No diagnostic tools or practice sets
  • No teaching qualification
Experienced Tutor
$80-120 /hour
Per session, nothing in between

  • May have teaching experience
  • Still reactive, session to session
  • No structured weekly practice
  • No written feedback loop

Getting started

Three steps.

No minimum commitment. No lock-in. Start with a conversation and see if it's the right fit.
